Common Questions
Can I come with a friend?
Yes! But we will place no more than 2 people who know each other together in a unit. This request must be in writing by both camper's parent/guardian. ^Top Do all events have only one unit?
No. Many events have two or more units. so if you wish to be with a friend, we ask that the parent/guardian of each camper make that request in writing on the registration form. ^Top Are all your units co-ed?
No. Not all Units. Units have six girls and six boys. In some cases, however, when we have an overhwelming number of one gender or the other, there may be more of one sex than the other. There also are instances where we may have an all girl unit (e.g., horseback) or an all boy unit (e.g., All-terrain biking). Please feel free to check with us if unit composition is a concern. ^Top May I come for two consecutive weeks?
Yes, but the only weekend we will allow campers to stay over will be the first weekend of camp July 5-6, and there will be a $90 charge for the weekend. We invite campers who live three or more hours away to stay over other weekends (not for elementary campers). There will also be a $90 charge for the weekend, and this must be prearranged. ^Top Is there financial assistance available?
Yes! Camperships are available through many churches. If your church does not offer summer camperships, please let us know and we will help. We have a number of camperships for half the camper fee, and four full-fee camperships in memory of Karin Peri, a former camper and friend, and three full-fee camperships in memory of Loretta Blasso, our former cook and friend. ^Top Where will I swim?
Campers swim in our 40' x 75' pool. There are lessons in the morning, free swim in the afternoon, occasional polar bear swims before breakfast, and the chance to boat each day. Although swim lessons cannot always accomodate the advanced swimmer, those who fit that category enjoy swimming laps, practicing basic lifesaving, or relaxing in the cool water on a hot day. ^Top Can you accomodate special dietary needs?
Yes. Every week we have campers who are vegetarian, lactose intolerant, and the like. Our menu provides plenty of choices at each meal. Please let us know ahead time if possible. ^Top What is Canteen?
Canteen is our name for the camp store where our campers can buy camp clothing and apparel, candy, ice cream, letter writing materials, frisbees, and more. The Canteen is open during the week and on Saturdays and Sundays during pickup and arrival. ^Top Can my child bring food or snacks to camp?
No. More than enough food and snacks are provided (three meals a day and an evening snack). Campers can also purchase candy and snacks when their unit goes to Canteen twice a week. We cannot allow campers to bring, or parents to send, any food. The director will hold any food brought to camp until the end of the week. ^Top Can I claim part of my camper fee as childcare costs on my taxes?
In some cases, camper fees can be tax deductible as childcare costs. Please check with your financial advisor to see if this applies to you. Camp Johnsonburg's tax identification number is: 22-1487356. ^Top What happens during severe weather?
We try to have our campers spend as many nights in their units as possible. During thunderstorms, tent units will move to buildings like the new worship/recreation center to "ride out" the storm. ^Top Discipline Policy
Our staff work to keep all campers safe emotionally and physically. When safety breaks down and a camper bullies, intimidates, or strikes another camper, she or he will be asked to leave the event without refund. It is our hope that we can intercede and work to resolve conflict in healthy ways before this drastic step must be taken. ^Top Do you have a medical staff on duty?
Medical professionals are on duty at camp 24 hours a day. ^Top Is your camp accredited by the American Camping Association?
Yes ^Top Prohihited in Camp
Board policy prohibits drugs, alcohol, and tobacco, in camp or on camp trips. Anyone possessing these substances, or are found to have violated other policies, will be asked to leave the event without refund. ^Top Refund Policy
Refunds, minus $25 for administrative costs, will be made if a cancellation is received four weeks or more before the event is scheduled to begin. Requests for refunds due to illness or accident must be accompanied by a statement from a physician. We cannot issues a refund for early departure from an event due to camper violation of policy (e.g. possession of tobacco) or for reasons of personal choice (e.g. homesickness). All requests for refunds should be made in writing to the office. ^Top |
